Kit the Koala Children’s Book

Kit the Koala was created to support young families facing the big changes that come with spinal cord injury. This story helps children understand what’s happening, feel less alone, and find hope and courage through the journey of healing. It’s a gentle way to explain challenges, celebrate strength, and remind families that with love and teamwork, new adventures are possible.

This project is also personal to me. I experienced a spinal cord injury playing rugby at 15. While my injury was relatively minor compared to what many others face, it still made me want to create something that could help children understand the changes that come with such a significant event.

Brought to life

Animation: creatively prompting Midjourney to produce these animated stories.

From a creative and production standpoint, I took a multidisciplinary approach:

  • Copywriting: I used ChatGPT to shape the narrative and tone so it felt
    age-appropriate, empathetic and engaging.

  • Visual Development: Midjourney was used to establish the key visual direction and illustration style.

  • Scene Consistency: Prompting and image referencing using Gemini’s Nano Banana helped maintain continuity with characters, themes and scenes throughout the book.

Combining collaboration, personal experience, storytelling and AI-assisted creativity allowed me to produce a cohesive visual and narrative experience.
